Overview:

Our client is one of Bermuda’s largest financial services organizations. With a strong history behind them and ambitious growth plans set for the future they are uniquely positioned to provide a full range of investment, banking and wealth management services to their customer base within Bermuda and internationally.

On their behalf, we are searching for a qualified individual to join them in Bermuda as Chief Accounting Officer.  The post holder will report to the group CEO and assume overall responsibility for the Finance, Accounting and Treasury departments across the group of companies.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Finance, Accounting and Treasury departments
  • Assume overall responsibility for fiscal operating results in accordance with GAAP
  • Assume overall responsibility for regulatory reporting to appropriate regulatory bodies
  • Responsible for regulatory capital and liquidity modelling under Basel III.
  • Manage all external audits.
  • Direct and control the budgeting process ensuring alignment to the business strategy and devising strategies to maximize profits.
  • Oversee General Ledger functions of the Group and delivering complete, accurate & timely financial statements.
  • Analyze the impact of new accounting and tax pronouncements, ensuring proper implementation thereof.
  • As a member of the senior leadership team collaborate and contribute to the development and execution of the strategies improving the financial performance of the Group.
Required qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related subject (business, accounting, law).
  • CPA, CA or equivalent designation
  • 10 years of progressive financial experience obtained at a bank or financial services company which should include a minimum of 5 years at an Executive level
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS, particularly in relation to the requirements for banks and investment management entities.
  • Demonstrable experience with Basel III and bank regulatory requirements following established standards for capital adequacy, liquidity, risk profiling, etc.
  • Experience with managing asset & liability and treasury systems.
  • Experience with managing a bank’s data warehouse would be an asset.
  • Previous supervisory skills or experience, with the demonstrable ability to train and develop other staff.
  • Knowledge of banking, investment and treasury products, accounting for financial instruments and the associated accounting pronouncements.
  • Experience with matrixed organization with straight and dotted line relationships.
